HOT SHOP GLASS offers glass blowing instruction for everyone age 14+, group and corporate team building workshops, private instruction and studio rentals and gallery space to showcase the work of local glass artists. The public is welcome to visit our gallery and observe the action in the studio on Saturdays from 10am to 4pm.

Our classes are popular and do fill quickly. Call 262.833.0095 for more info or to register! We teach classes year round, but are busiest when it’s cold outside!  Most people start with our Explore Glass Workshop – some take it multiple times – and then join a Beginning Glass Class in the winter or fall.  Private classes are designed for experienced glass students, or those wishing to do the Beginning Glass Class curriculum, but unable to fit it in their schedule.  Due to the demand for classes and small class size, payment for classes is due at time of reservation!

We recommend making your reservations at least 4-8 weeks in advance, especially for Saturdays . . . as the weather gets colder, we get busier!  Weekday evening classes are a bit more open.  We sometimes have last minute openings,  so be sure to try us if you’d like to take a class last minute! Please call us for information on specific dates and to register, 262.833.0095, or stop in on a Saturday to make a reservation.

Matthew Urban…
…began his career in art at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia as an industrial design student.  The design field was where his first inspirations for glass came from.  Intrigued by the multitude of designs produced in glass from Italy from 1920 to 1962, he began to research the designers, architects, and sculptors from this distinctive time period.  One semester he took an elective class in glassblowing and he soon changed majors from industrial design to glass.  That following summer he received a scholarship to the Corning Museum of Glass to study with Maestro Gianni Toso and decided to make glassmaking his life.  That was about nineteen years ago and since then he has been an artist in residence, instructor, and Gaffer with the Corning Museum of Glass.;  An artist in residence at Penland School of Craft, a staff member of Pilchuck Glass School and has studied and worked around the world with numerous master glass makers specifically from Murano, Italy.  These intereactions have had a profound impact on Matthew’s approach to glassmaking and appreciation for the history of glass.  In May 2007 he completed his Masters Degree at Illinois State University in Glass/Sculpture & in 2010 he completed building his artist studio.  Matthew’s studio has ultra low carbon footprint.  In addition he uses 100% recycled glass for all his designs and sculpture.  For the past 7 years Matthew has enjoyed operating a successful glassblowing studio in Bloomington Illinois, creating his designs as well as commission work for nationally renowned artists and designers.
